Subsequently, the American brand has become one of the most internationally recognised manufacturers of durable footwear and protective clothing.

The family-run business was founded by two cousins and was originally called the Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Company. At the time, the industrial age was crying out for protective clothing and the Dickies brand filled the gap with the launch of tough-wearing bib overalls which was soon followed by trousers and shirts sewn from durable twill fabric. The Dickies 1922 collection is recognised as the roots of authentic work wear.

The success of the cousins enabled them to expand and one of the oldest facilities owned by the company is still producing today – in Uvalde, Texas. During the 20th Century, Dickies was responsible for innovation in clothing including brass zippers and the permanent press finish.

The progress of the company did not escape the attention of the US Government who commissioned the Texans to manufacture uniforms for the armed services from 1931. During World War 2, the cousins made a killing and enabled them to achieve considerable funds which they used to expand their business into the international market.

Switching their focus back to civilian clothes and work wear Dickies was able to build on sales around the globe. Today Dickies is the leading work wear manufacturer of work wear that is specifically designed for use in 10 different professions.
